I have now purchased the vehicle, what next?

You have to fax a copy of the completed and signed Bill of Sale (must be a valid form) and the signed and released (if there was a lien on it) by the bank title document to the U.S. Custom’s office at the border that you are passing through. The documents must be faxed at least 72 hours prior to your crossing. If you fail to do this or if you fax the documents and not all are legible to them or if not all the documents went through, or if any document was not completed properly, when you arrive at the U.S. Customs office, you can be fined, or made to wait for three days while they complete the paper work.

Also, please note, certain manufacturers such as BMW, and Mercedes Benz will require you to acquire a “Product Compliance Form” before exporting the vehicle. If you don’t have this ahead of time, you are stuck until they can provide it to you. Some manufacturers charge up to $500.00 for that letter.
